Organization Description: American Friends of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, a nonprofit organization, promotes international scholarly exchange by publicizing the grants offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH). The AvH enables highly qualified scientists and scholars of all disciplines and nationalities to carry out long-term research projects in Germany.
The AvH promotes an active world-wide network of scholars. Individual sponsorship during periods spent in Germany and longstanding follow-up contacts have been hallmarks of the foundation's work since 1953.

Preferred major/degrees:
Most of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s programs require a doctoral-level degree, such as a Ph.D. or M.D. The German Chancellor Fellowship Program, which aims to further the professional development of future leaders, requires at least an undergraduate degree.
Preferred nationality:
Academic excellence is the most important criterion for selecting new Humboldtians. There are no quotas, either for individual countries or for individual scholarly disciplines. Our selection committees, composed of academics from all fields, make their decisions independently and solely on the basis of the applicant’s academic quality.
