Organization Description:
The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a not-for-profit corporation that operates three Federally Funded Research Centers, two serving the Department of Defense and one serving the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President. The IDA Centers provide its U.S. government sponsors with objective analyses of national challenges and security issues, particularly those requiring scientific and technical expertise.

Position Descriptions:
IDA is looking for candidates with advanced degrees (in the sciences, engineering and economics) with the opportunity to use their education and experience and apply it to rigorous, independent research on complex problems that are both real and challenging. Here we work on the big picture as well as the detailed solution. A typical Research Staff Member develops a broad experience over many technical subject areas, yet maintains the depth needed to fully analyze technical issues. Over time, our newly educated researchers become amazing defense analysts and provide tremendous value to the government.

At IDA, you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues who are also incredible research professionals and will be expected to work on collaborative teams with individuals of diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise. Keeping company with the best opens you up to improve your own skills to address increasingly challenging assignments.

Our focus is to produce top-notch, objective analyses that helps our government sponsors make decisions and affect policy within the Department of Defense and beyond. As a research staff member, you are given the time to thoroughly investigate some of the most challenging national security issues to generate these analyses.

Working here requires energy, commitment, flexibility, and teamwork. Whether you’re a graduate student ready to start your career, a professional looking for your next challenge, or a member of the military hoping to transition to the private sector while continuing to make a difference in the national security of your country, we offer exciting opportunities to learn, stretch, and grow.

IDA offers a competitive salary, an excellent benefits package and a superior professional working environment. IDA is located in a modern office facility, directly off an interstate, minutes from the Pentagon. We embrace professional diversity and support an inclusive work environment. The Institute for Defense Analyses is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. The selected individuals will be subject to a security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. U. S. citizenship is required.
