Position Descriptions:
Principal Scientist
We are seeking a motivated person to serve as the Technical Area manager for Cell Engineering as part of the Cell Culture Systems division of Invitrogen based in Frederick, Maryland. The two major areas are Bioproduction and Cell Culture Research with extended areas of focus including Stem Cells.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent on a relevant scientific disciple and a minimum of 7 years experience subsequent to postdoctoral training. They must also have demonstrated skills in team leadership, career development, and successful leadership of multiple project teams.


Scientist
Responsible for developing new cell-based products as a member of the Cell Biology R&D team. The successful candidate will excel at the design and implementation of molecular and cellular approaches to characterize cells and cell culture systems. Key tasks include implementation of detection technology platforms that are applicable to a broad portfolio of cell-based products; identification and development of specialized assays to probe cell and tissue phenotype and function; leverage technologies to develop stand-alone and integrated assay products.


Education
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or other related discipline, or the equivalent knowledge and experience.

Experience
Experience gained through obtaining a Ph.D. degree; Bachelors degree with 8 to 10 years of experience; or Master's degree with 4 plus years experience within a commercial setting.

Sr. Product Manager
This senior product manager role will provide strategic leadership and execution for the research cell culture reagents and custom businesses

Key responsibilities include:
•Lead the creation and implementation of global marketing and product strategies for the research cell culture business;
•Work with the North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific regions to segment the market, develop and implement marketing programs, and use channels to communicate value propositions to grow the business;

•Champion new markets and directions: work across functions to develop business opportunities, for revenue growth and cost reduction, and use voice of customer research to drive product lifecycle planning;
•Understand how customers purchase our products and improve the process to exceed expectations;
•Create financial models to analyze data to develop strategic initiatives and tactics to support plans;
•Develop the strategy to drive customer awareness, adoption, and loyalty for the research custom business;
•Develop/manage third party collaboration/agreements as needed;
•Work closely with R&D, operations, commercial teams and third party partners to execute on programs and projects.


Qualifications/Requirement

•Education: MBA from top-tier program
•Minimum 5 years marketing experience
•Experience in finance or financial modeling
•Experience managing a global product line with close interaction with research and development and operations
•Willingness to travel up to 30%


Sr. Project Manager
Independently oversees planning, execution and management of cross-functional New Product Development projects, of moderate to high complexity, risk and impact. Uses approved Project Management and New Product Introduction models and techniques. Ensures scope of project is defined and sanctioned, and that scope changes are documented and controlled. Assumes personal responsibility for rapid, flexible commercialization of New Products, acting on behalf of the Team.

Education:
Requires a Master’s and/or PhD or equivalent experience in a scientific or technical discipline. Biology-related sciences, Biotechnology, or Chemical Engineering are preferred disciplines. Has PMP certification, or two or more PMI-sanctioned courses in Project Management skills and techniques, or equivalent experience. Training in two or more of the following areas required: 1) New Product Development; 2) Problem-solving in groups; 3) Risk Management; 4) Supervisor Effectiveness; 5) Business Leadership.

Experience:
At least 8-12 years working experience in 2 or more functional areas (eg. R&D, Manufacturing, Marketing etc). At least 3 years of experience in managing cross-functional projects. A minimum of 5 years experience participating in cross-functional project teams. Previous experience supervising technical staff required. Five years or more experience in Biotechnology product development or research required, or equivalent experience.

Sr. Scientist
Responsible for developing new products and platform technologies by initiating, directing and executing technical strategies in tissue engineered and other advanced cell culture systems as a member of the Cell Biology R&D team. The candidate will focus on enhanced cell culture environments for physiological relevance or improved functional output. The position requires fundamental understanding of the mechanical, physical and chemical influences on cell and tissue behavior, and the manipulation of these phenomena through the use of tools such as natural and synthetic matrices, engineered scaffolds, dynamic perfusion systems, multicellular cultures, and other environmental stimuli. Product development will focus on tools and integrated systems for cell culture. An essential component these efforts will involve the identification, evaluation, and reporting of new and existing technologies of interest.


Education
Ph.D. degree in Biological Engineering, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or other related discipline.

Experience
Minimum of 3 years post degree lab experience, preferably in a commercial setting.
