Daycare Facilities

There are two full-time daycare facilities on the NIH Bethesda campus and a third on Executive Boulevard. Their hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ChildKind accepts children from age two months to three (3) years. The Parents of Preschoolers, Inc. accepts children from 2 1/2 years until they are ready for kindergarten. The Executive Child Development Center accepts infants through 13 years old. If you wish to enroll your child in either program, you should apply at least one year in advance.

 

  • ChildKind

    The center is located in Building T46. The child to teacher ratio is 3:1 and all teachers are trained in early childhood education. For further information about ChildKind, call 301-496-8357.

     

  • Parents of Preschoolers, Inc.

    The preschool is located in Building 35. The child to teacher ratio is 7:1. The preschool program is accredited by the Maryland Department of Education and the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

  • Executive Child Development Center

    The center has several programs for children as young as six months and as old as thirteen years, including an accredited kindergarten. It is located at 6006 Executive Boulevard. For information, call 301-496-9411


Other Daycare/Preschool Options

There are many options for child care in the Bethesda area. These include home care and nanny care. There are a number of nanny services which you can find in the Yellow Pages of the Montgomery County phone book.

 

  • Locate Child Care is a private non-profit organization. For a 6-month membership fee, they will provide you with a list of child care providers in the Montgomery County. Their list includes day care centers as well as any Montgomery County family care providers that are licensed by the Maryland State Child Care Administration. You should be aware that this licensing does not mean the family care providers receive any training and they are not monitored by any agency after they are licensed.

  • Potomac Children is a newspaper for parents of young children and is an excellent source of local information about child care. It is available free of charge at ChildKind as well as almost any place in the Washington, DC metro area frequented by parents of small children: doctor's offices, toy stores, daycare facilities, YMCAs, etc.
