Employee Permit Parking

NIH permit holders have self-park spaces available at the many designated lots with the exception of marked reserved spaces.

Ticketing is strictly enforced from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays, on any vehicle without a properly displayed permit sticker in the window. A $30.00 violation fee applies.

Four new temporary lots have been added to the campus for permit holders.

• Lot TP-17 near the Metro station
• Lot TP-61 near the Cloister
• Lot TP-45 near the Natcher Building
• Lot TP-41 near Building 41

Attendant-Assisted Permit Parking

MLP-8, ACRF-P3, and Lots 31B-H are facilities with attendant-assisted (stacked) parking to make more space available. Attendants will be on duty from 5:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Your ignition key may be retained by the attendant depending on your arrival time:

• After hours, keys are held at Attendant Control Stations at or near these facilities.
• Handicapped spaces are available at all facilities.
• Escort service to your car after dark is available, if you call 301-496-5685 (NIH police).

Short-Term Close-In Metered Parking

Metered lots are located at or near:

• Building 13
• Building 31A
• Building 36
• Building 38
• Building 45

For your convenience, change machines have been placed in most of these building lobbies.

All metered lots have time zones and will not provide parking beyond the stated limit.

Meter rates:

• $ 0.25 at a 10 minute zone
• $ 0.50 at a 20 minute zone
• $ 6.00 maximum at a 3 hour zone

Inoperative meters are considered closed spaces and vehicles in such spaces will be subject to ticketing.

Cashier-Pay Long-Term Parking

Lots at or near Building 4 and Building 45, and the garages MLP-8 and ACRF-P3 are attended facilities operating from 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Rates:

• 1 hour $ 2.00
• 2 hour $ 4.00
• 3 hour $ 6.00
• 4-12 hour $12.00

Rates are charged by the hour or fraction of an hour with a five (5) minute grace period.

Your ignition key may be retained by the attendant until you return. After hours, keys are held at Attendant Control Stations at or near these facilities.

The Clinical Center ACRF-P3 garage offers free validated parking only to patients, patient visitors and authorized users.

Off-Campus Parking

The following off-campus parking lots provide free parking for NIH permit holders:

• Regular NIH Shuttle Bus service is available to and from the campus at these lots.
• Public Parking Garage 57 on Elm Street in Downtown Bethesda (spaces 593 through 732)
• Mid-Pike Plaza Commuter Lot at the southwest intersection of Rockville Pike and Montrose Road (northeast corner of lot)
• Metro-Connection Parking
  • Shady Grove Metro Station (spaces 1 through 150 on the top level of the garage)
  • New Carrollton Metro East Lot at 4201 Garden City Drive in Landover Maryland

Parking Validation Stamps

One hour stamps with a value of $2.00 each are available in sheets of forty-eight (48) stamps for $96.00 per sheet.

All-day stamps with a value of $12.00 are available in half sheets of twenty-four (24) stamps for $288.00 or whole sheets of forty-eight (48) stamps for $576.00 per sheet.

Note: When using the one (1) hour stamps, do not use more than three (3) stamps per ticket and allow enough time for visitors to return to the parking lot. If the parking time exceeds three (3) hours you must use the all-day stamp.

Final Notes

The NIH Shuttle Bus offers convenient access to all buildings and parking facilities during the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Emergency phones are located at all parking facilities and throughout the campus. For the latest information about NIH parking services, call 301-402-RIDE.
