Office of Intramural Training and Education [Home] [Up] [Handbook Contents] The Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE) is responsible for the administration of a variety of programs and initiatives designed to support and enhance the recruitment and development of trainees in the intramural research programs at the National Institutes of Health. These activities include the recruitment of clinical and postdoctoral fellows as well as candidates for the myriad of training experiences available to students at all levels of the educational spectrum. The OITE also maintains a web site on the internet containing program descriptions and application information regarding a wide range of research training opportunities available at the NIH. Staff in the OITE are also available to respond to questions from prospective candidates concerning intramural training opportunities. In addition, the OITE is responsible for ensuring that accredited NIH graduate medical education and continuing medical education programs are in compliance with standards established by their national accrediting bodies. Staff in the OITE work closely with the postdoctoral fellows committee in developing programs and activities that supplement the NIH training experience. These activities include seminars and workshops on subjects that are of special concern to fellows. Finally, the OITE plans and implements a series of activities that are part of the summer research program for students at the high school, college, and predoctoral levels. These activities include lectures by leading NIH intramural investigators and seminars devoted to careers in biomedical research.
