Sales and Marketing in the scientific environment is almost always a civilized, consultative occupation when the salesperson will be asked to use their scientific knowledge obtained from the academic training. Most time, the clients are similar intelligent people like their colleagues. There is a whole spectrum of opportunities depending on the balance between sales and technical. For example, Medical Science Liaisons are healthcare consulting individuals employed by pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device and managed care companies. They act as a bridge of communication between product development companies and the health care industry. Their job is to stay in the frontier of research and clinical trials and share those information with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

If you are interested in a career in Sales and Marketing, join us on this month's career development panel! We invited several local professionals to discuss how to learn business and marketing skills during the postdoctoral training, how to transition from academia to industry, and what are requirements to become a Medical Science Liaison.

This event is sponsored by the NIH FelCom Career Development Subcommittee. A written summary of the session will be posted for fellows who are unable to attend.
