Grad/Postdoc Job Search Stress Drop-in Discussion Group

Discussion Group/Brown Bag: Personal Development

Jan 30, 2018

Speaker(s): Annie Scheiner, LCMFT, OITE Wellness Advisor
This event is recommended for: Graduate Students; Postdocs/Fellows.

Career planning and job searches takes time and energy, with many ups and downs throughout. While we frequently talk about the nuts and bolts of the career exploration and job search process, we don't usually talk about how stressful and emotionally challenging the process can be. A common element of navigating the challenges of job searching is using resources, and developing your stress management, and self-care skills.

The OITE is pleased to announce a weekly drop-in discussion group for NIH graduate students, postdocs, clinical and research fellows currently searching for positions (at and away from the bench in all sectors). The group will provide a confidential space to explore the stresses of the job search process in a positive and proactive way and will offer resources for dealing with the feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt that can sabotage any job search. We will not discuss resumes/CVs, interviewing techniques, or the other mechanics of finding a job. The group will be facilitated by Annie Scheiner, LCMFT, OITE Wellness Advisor and will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 4:15 - 5:15 in the OITE Conference Room. You must register in advance, and you may choose to attend one session or multiple sessions. Registration will open one week prior to each session, and is limited to 16 trainees per week.  We will collect a waitlist.  Email Jackie Newell-Hunt ( with questions.

NOTE - since this is a pilot program, we are unable to offer phone or videoconferencing. However, OITE career and wellness counselors are available to meet with NIH trainees on all NIH campuses ( Staff). Furthermore, if successful, we will explore ways to bring similar programs to trainees outside of the Bethesda area.
