Let’s learn about finding exciting opportunities in genomics and data science.

Dr. Todd Macfarlan (Unit on Mammalian Epigenome Reprogramming) will speak about strategies to position oneself for the future of genomic sciences and his early career trajectory where he got interested in studying epigenetics. Dr. Adam Phillippy (Computational and Statistical Genomics Branch) will discuss his career in genomics and the future of data science education. This event is a great opportunity for you to network, ask questions and learn from two outstanding principal investigators in an informal, relaxed setting.

This “Research Excellence Mentorship Program - Finding Mentors and Building Networks” event will be held on Tuesday, February 12th at 12-1pm in the Graduate Student Lounge (Building 10, Room 1N263). While the bulk of the session will be discussion-oriented in a group setting, there will be an opportunity for one-on-one networking at the end of the session. Todd Macfarlan, Ph.D., heads the Unit on Mammalian Epigenome Reprogramming, where his research focuses on the transcription factors underlying epigenetic states during early development. He joined the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in July of 2012 as an Earl Stadtman Investigator.

Adam Phillippy, Ph.D., is head of the Genome Informatics Section, where he is developing new bioinformatics methods for the assembly, comparison, and exploration of genomes. This research pertains to the diagnosis of infectious disease, cancers, and genetic disorders. He joined the National Human Genome Research Institute in 2015 and founded the Genome Informatics Section.
