In 2023- the Career Symposium will be virtual. It will run from May 8 to May 10. The NIH Career Symposium highlights the diversity of career choices available to your generation of biomedical researchers.  Whether you are a new graduate student, postdoc, or clinical fellow just beginning to consider career options or a senior student/fellow ready to look for a job, the NIH Career Symposium is for you.

Mon-MAY-8 – Research-intensive Careers (faculty, industry, non-faculty)
  • 11:00 am – 11:50 am Introduction to Careers in Research (all Sectors) (will be recorded)
  • 12:00 pm – 12:50 pm Applying to and negotiating for academic faculty positions
  • 1:00 pm – 1:50 pm Becoming a faculty member: Transitioning into your new role and setting up a research group
  • 2:00 pm – 2:50 pm Industry Research Careers (Session 1)
  • 3:00 pm – 3:50 pm Industry Research Careers (Session 2)
  • 4:00 pm – 4:50 pm Three Options: Research (Non-faculty), Public Health, & Clinician Careers

  • 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm Myths and facts about getting an academic faculty position (will be recorded)
  • 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Building Career Community Through Shared Identities
  • 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm Research Training Opportunities at NIH (Intramural) (will be recorded)

We invite any postdoc, clinical fellow, or PhD-level graduate student to join us. You need not be at the NIH to participate. This event is free to attend.
