About the position
Genome Stability and Bioinformatics
Mechanisms of Genome Dynamics Group
National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), NIH Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, USA
A postdoctoral position is available in the Mechanisms of Genome Dynamics Group to investigate mechanisms of hypermutation and genome instability using advanced yeast models, genomics of human somatic cells, and bioinformatics. There are several related research projects using genetics, biochemical and bioinformatics approaches, as well as unique NIEHS clinical resource - Personalized Environment and Genes Study
(PEGS) - https://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/crb/studies/pegs/index.cfm to understand fundamental mechanisms of genome instability, and their impact on human health.
Along with exceptional facilities and resources, we provide a highly interactive and unique scientific environment and advanced training for diverse cohort of trainees to develop synergistic set of top level expertise in molecular genetics and in bioinformatics. For more information about the Group see: http://www.niehs.nih.gov/research/atniehs/labs/gisbl/pi/mgd/index.cfm The Group is a part of the Genome Integrity & Structural Biology Laboratory (i.e., department) with PIs renowned for their contributions to the area of genome stability.
Depending on candidate’s expertise and training goals, specific projects can range from mostly wet lab to mostly bioinformatics. Training usually starts from a relatively low-risk project(s) utilizing approaches developed in the group, which often evolve into findings carried over by a trainee to an independent position.
Competitive stipends are determined by educational degree(s) and number of years of relevant postdoctoral experience. NIEHS is surrounded by prominent research institutions, and it provides a stimulating environment and excellent opportunities for young scientists to develop their research careers. The Scientist and other scientific media consistently list NIEHS among the top places for postdoctoral training.
