Job

Post-Doctoral Fellow - Neurovirology Unit

The research at NVU focuses on the acute and long-term complications caused by human alphaherpesvirus and coronavirus infections, laying the groundwork for innovative therapeutic strategies. By integrating molecular virology, neurobiology, and immunology, we investigate the mechanisms driving alphaherpesvirus and coronavirus pathogenesis in the central nervous system, with a particular emphasis on neuroinflammation and long-term neurological sequelae such as cognitive decline

About the position

In the Neurovirology Unit (NVU) of Dr. Rahul Suryawanshi, our key research areas include:

  • Developing and leveraging animal models and human brain organoids to explore the connection between post-viral neuroinflammation and potential neurodegenerative outcomes.
  • Investigating the interplay between the nervous system, viral pathogens, and immune responses.
  • Identifying novel drug targets and screening small molecules to combat acute and long-term implication of viral infections. We are seeking skilled and motivated post-doctoral candidates experienced in virology. The selected candidate will be responsible for executing invitro and invivo experiments in our state-of-the-art animal BSL2 and BSL3 labs. Situated in the scenic Bitterroot Valley of southwestern Montana, RML offers convenient access to some of North America's premier outdoor recreational activities. The campus features cutting-edge facilities, including fully equipped biosafety level (BSL)-3 and BSL-4 laboratories, an animal facility supporting research with models ranging from small animals to nonhuman primates, and advanced core facilities for genomics, electron microscopy, flow cytometry, metabolomics, and bioinformatics.
