Job
Postdoctoral Fellow - Organic and Medicinal Chemistry
Organization
National Institute on Drug Abuse, Bethesda, MD and surrounding area
About the position
A postdoctoral position is available for an organic chemist to work on multi-step synthesis of mostly nitrogenous small molecules on a multigram scale in the Drug Design and Synthesis Section, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), 9800 Medical Center Drive, Rockville, Maryland. Our major research direction is the elucidation of the structure and function of neurotransmitter systems in the mammalian central nervous system (CNS) in normal, drug-altered, and pathological states and the molecular mechanism of action of CNS active drugs. DDSS has been involved with the rational design and chemical synthesis of novel agonists, antagonists, imaging agents, and affinity ligands as well as haptens for anti-heroin and anti-fentanyl vaccines and highly biased G-protein mu-opioid ligands.

Postdoctoral position at the NCI
A postdoctoral position is available at the DNA Replication Group (PI: Mirit I. Aladjem, Ph.D.), a part of the NCI’s Developmental Therapeutics Branch in Bethesda, Maryland. Our group aims to understand cellular networks that signal to and from chromatin to modulate DNA replication. Since many regulatory feedback pathways are deregulated in cancer cells, the results of these studies will help our understanding of cancer biology and the mechanisms underlying therapeutic strategies.

Staff Scientist
A Staff Scientist Position is open in the Synaptic Function Section at the NINDS, NIH. The selected candidate will lead multidisciplinary investigations into reprogramming mitochondrial trafficking and energy metabolism. These studies will leverage advanced imaging of living neurons derived from diseased mouse models and human iPSCs to elucidate mechanisms governing mitochondria positioning and energy metabolism, and the brain’s adaptative responses to dynamic energy stress.
