Staff Scientist - Intramural Research Program

Position Description:

The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is recruiting a Staff Scientist in Bethesda, Maryland, to support a new program in experimental and computational analyses of tissue remodeling and repair processes in the Intramural Research Program (IRP). This new translational research group will include projects centered on cerebro- and cardiovascular biomechanics, sickle cell disease, and development and deployment of technology in low resource settings.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Ph.D. and at least ten years of relevant research experience in biomedical engineering is required, including demonstrated expertise in the development and application of disease models and a track record of success in interdisciplinary collaborations with diverse teams.
  • Candidates should be familiar with a wide variety of techniques, including small animal surgery, label-free magnetic resonance angiography, image processing and analysis, extensive confocal, light-sheet, and other fluorescence microscopy, ultrasound and micro-CT imaging of cardiovascular and musculoskeletal structures, and flow cytometry, and RNA sequencing analysis.
  • Experience with computational modeling of biochemical processes are also expected.
  • Candidates should also have the demonstrated ability to manage research operations in a research group, planning new research directions, and publishing results.
  • Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching and mentoring a diverse group of researchers at various levels (this includes student trainees, Post-Baccalaureate and Post-Doctoral staff),
  • The individual will play a key role in the development and growth of a wide range of team/lab members who be trained by the incumbent.
