Statistical Genetics QC Consultant

Position Description:

Goldfinch Bio seeks a talented part-time statistical geneticist consultant to aid in development of its Kidney Genome Atlas (KGA).  The KGA is one of the core components in the company’s product engine and a critical resource within the company.  This exciting position will play a pivotal role in the definition of data processing algorithms, by applying appropriate statistical methods to the analysis of whole genome sequence data including quality control.  A successful candidate will have significant experience with genome sequence analysis for identifying new loci associated with human disease.


  • Evaluate and incorporate cutting edge analytical and statistical genetics approaches in analyses and interpretation of genomic data
  • Defining and assisting with the implementation of variant annotation and iterative filtering to generate a clean call set from well curated samples
                 1. Generate and interpret QQ and Manhattan plots
                 2. Evaluate effect sizes of known signals
                 3. Combat confounding, such as population stratification


  • Ph.D. REQUIRED. Preferred Degree in: Statistical Genetics or Computational Biology
  • Proficiency in hail, Python, and R is required; experience in Linux/UNIX environment is preferred
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience analyzing next generation sequencing data, with a particular focus on whole genome sequencing data

Preferred Experience in addition to the above:

  • Experience with Genome Analysis Toolkit (GATK)
  • Experience operating in a cloud platform (AWS or other)
  • Experience with version control, electronic notebooks (Jupyter or other)
