Senior Analyst - Influenza Scientist

Position Description:

We are actively hiring a senior-level analyst with a background in influenza vaccine research and development to work on projects supporting national influenza research, prevention, and control efforts. This is an early-career position for recent PhD graduates. The Senior Analyst will also contribute to other Gryphon projects as appropriate or needed. All positions at Gryphon Scientific require critical thinking, creative problem solving, and both qualitative and quantitative analysis to tackle challenging projects. Duties:
  • Serve as a team leader on analytical and data management and coordination tasks, as well as projects in fields related to influenza, emerging infectious diseases, public safety, and/or homeland security.
  • Work and directly interface with clients in the federal government to support policy decisions and planning efforts.
  • Facilitate tracking, coordination, and reporting of diverse influenza, immunological, and vaccine-related data generated by independent investigators.
  • Conduct analyses on diverse and complex datasets and scientific literature to advance the understanding of correlates of protection, immunity, and influenza vaccine responses to combat seasonal and pandemic influenza.
  • Through written, visual, and oral media, translate complex scientific advances in the field of influenza for the broader scientific community and general public.
  • Generate articles and other written and visual products to convey recent influenza-related information to the general and scientific public.
  • Distill complex datasets and information into clear and concise summary reports.
  • Plan, organize, and execute interoperability activities with multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Attend scientific conferences and develop working relationships with various stakeholder groups.
  • Develop and present reports and analyses to various stakeholder groups.
  • Present status and progress updates at regular meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in scientific discipline of biological sciences (Immunology, Microbiology, Virology, Vaccinology, etc.) with 0-5 years post-graduate experience
  • Extensive technical experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Influenza research (e.g., immunity, host response, disease models, transmission, epidemiology, etc.).
    • Vaccine research and development for the prevention and control of influenza viruses and other infectious diseases
  • Experience with management and analysis of large user-reported data sets
  • Ability to travel one to two times per year, including domestic and international locations
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Willing to re-locate to the greater Washington, DC, area
Required Skills:
  • Ability to analyze large and complex data sets to generate new understandings relevant to public health
  • Ability to present technical scientific and public health information to audiences of varying levels of knowledge and expertise
  • Ability to manage communications among multiple and diverse groups of stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office programs, especially ExcelStrong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently
Additional Skills and Experience (desired but not required):
  • Experience with clinical study design or management of clinical trials, especially vaccine trials
  • Experience in bioinformatics
  • Technical experience in human subjects research and clinical trial design and management, especially for investigational drugs
