As a member of the Vaccine Immunology team, you will provide technical, scientific and project leadership to support the research and development of novel vaccines and technologies to prevent or treat viral infections in AstraZeneca’s infectious disease portfolio. The position requires the ability to embrace new technologies and perform in a fast-paced, matrix-structured work environment.
 Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of immunology and preclinical animal studies for various vaccine projects.
  • Be study lead on preclinical vaccine immunogenicity studies in mice and other animal models, analyzing antibody responses and immune cells from various tissues.
  • Perform cellular immunology assays such as characterization of vaccine specific T-cell and B-cell subsets and innate immune cells by intracellular cytokine staining and multi-parametric flow cytometry (FACS), immune cell-based assays etc.
  • Perform infection challenge studies in mice and other animals using clinical and virologic endpoints 


  • Ph.D. in vaccinology, virology or immunology or related subject
Essential Skills
  • Technical knowledge of mammalian innate and adaptive immunity, human and animal viruses
  • Technical knowledge of Immune cell culture and characterization (such as multicolor flow cytometry, ELISPOT, multiplex cytokine analysis and T & B cell epitope mapping)
  • Technical knowledge of In vivo immunogenicity and infection/challenge models
  • Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of data analysis packages
  • Ability to work in a team environment 
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with multiple vaccine platforms (viral vector, RNA, DNA, nanoparticle) and adjuvants
  • Experience working with wide range of viral pathogens
  • Displays a general knowledge of biopharmaceutical research and development.
