Staff Scientist in Bioinformatics

Position Description:

National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive & Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is seeking an experienced bioinformatician to lead a bioinformatics group that will supports members of three Laboratories: The Laboratory of Biochemistry and Genetics, The Laboratory of Bioorganic Chemistry and The Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology. The position involves data analysis of diverse types of data sets, including genomics, genome assembly and annotation, transcriptomics, differential gene expression analysis, Hi-C, and more. The successful candidate will also be involved in experimental design, data presentation and interpretation, and manuscript writing. The successful candidate is expected to attend Lab seminars and to become proficient in the biological systems for which the analyses are being performed. In addition to ongoing support efforts, the successful candidate will be charged with hiring additional staff to the group and training them to provide the aforementioned services. Finally, the successful candidate will develop training modules for bioinformatic novices and will create and support networking and seminar opportunities for individuals with experience and interest in bioinformatics.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD and at least 10 years of experience in bioinformatics. Applicants must also have experience in the types of analysis described above, as well as a strong publication record in related areas. Qualifications include experience in supervising individuals working in areas related to bioinformatics. Applicants must have programming and statistical analysis skills, proficiency in R, and have demonstrable experience in developing analysis pipelines. Familiarity with the NIH Biowulf system and experience in the Linux environment are an advantage.
