Postdoc in Neuroethics - BRAIN Initiative Neuroethics Study

Position Description:
The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a postdoctoral candidate to submit an administrative supplement to promote diversity. Please read the following documents to learn more about the process and evaluate whether you are eligible (NIH: PA-16-288; Supplemental Information for Diversity Supplements to BRAIN Initiative Awards) This is a non-laboratory research position.

We will work with the individual selected to write an administrative supplement to promote workforce diversity in empirical neuroethics and submit it to the BRAIN Initiative. If the supplement application is successful, it will provide salary support and research funds. The Postdoc will be encouraged to develop her/his own line of research within the scope of the study: Neuroethics of aDBS Systems Targeting Neuropsychiatric and Movement Disorders (R01MH114854)

Primary duties and responsibilities:  

  • Work together with the principal investigators to write the supplement application.
  • Provide research support neuroethics of emerging neurotechnologies 
  • Assist with interview and survey data collection and conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Take the lead and assist in the preparation of manuscripts for publication 
  • Take the lead and assist in the preparation of presentations to disseminate the project's research in local, national, and international meetings
  • Perform other duties based on project needs

Qualifications:  

  • Doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD, JD) in neuroscience, humanities, social sciences, health policy, public health or related field
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis software programs preferred (e.g., SPSS, STATA) 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
  • Strong interest in neuroethics, bioethics, health policy, and/or related legal issues
