Human Health Risk Assessment - PBPK Modeling (ORISE)

Position Description:

We are accepting applications for postdoctoral research position involving physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling for chemical risk assessment. This position is made available through a collaboration between the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The selected candidate would participate in the development of a PBPK model “template” that can be adapted to implement a variety of published PBPK models. The mentors for this position are scientists at the National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA), which is part of EPA’s Office of Research and Development.


The PBPK model template will be coded in the programming language R and the model specification language MCSim, so experience with either of those languages would be very helpful. The project will involve translating existing models into the PBPK model template (to demonstrate its utility), and the selected candidate will have an opportunity to learn how PBPK models are used in EPA chemical risk assessments.
