Optical Neuroscience

University of Maryland, College Park, College Park, Maryland

Position Description:

We would like to invite applications for a postdoctoral position in optical neuroscience in the laboratory of Dr. Wolfgang Losert at the University of Maryland. The Losert lab studies Dynamics of Complex Systems at the convergence of physics and biology. http://www.ireap.umd.edu/losertlab/

We are seeking highly motivated individuals who want to join an exciting collaborative project, together with Dr. Dietmar Plenz (NIMH), Dr. Mark Histed (NIMH), and Dr. Patrick Kanold (UMD Biology), funded by a new NIH BRAIN initiative grant. Our team uses in vivo 2-photon imaging and holographic optical stimulation technology that allows for imaging and stimulation of neuronal activity in vivo.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in physics, optics, electrical engineering, or a related discipline, a background in advanced imaging and optics, and an interest in working in a large multidisciplinary team. Prior experience in two-photon imaging and spatial light modulation is a plus. A strong interest in learning neuroscience as part of the postdoctoral training is expected (prior experience in neuroscience is not required).

The candidate will lead a project to advance optical neurotechnology in the Losert lab, and contribute optics expertise to neuroscience projects in the Kanold, Histed, and Plenz labs.

To Apply:

Qualified individuals should send a copy of their curriculum vitae and names of three references to Wolfgang Losert wlosert@umd.edu
