Position Description:

The Food and Drug Administration, Center for Tobacco Products is looking for a Postdoc to work on Social Science.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in research related to the communication of information about tobacco products such as labeling, advertising, promotion and marketing;
  • Reviews, analyzes, evaluates, consults and measures outcomes of data obtained in studies designed to investigate comprehension, judgment, knowledge and behavior related to tobacco product labeling and/or advertisements;
  • Prepares reports on research results to supervisors, peers, professional societies and industry meetings;
  • Participates in the development of policy associated with providing or presenting information on current trends in social science;
  • Develops and maintains contacts within professional and scientific organizations;
  • Travel Required: Occasional travel.

Qualifications:

This position has a Basic Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR). In order be eligible for the position of Social Scientist, (GS-0101-11/12/13), you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position;

OR

  • Have a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field;

OR

  • Have four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

You must possess one year (52-weeks) of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade levelin the Federal service. Such experience includes (in addition to meeting the basic qualifications for the Social Scientist, GS-0101-11 position, you must also meet the following):

  • 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

  • Have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service, which includes preparing, presenting, and/or defending findings on scientific research. Provide consultation to industry, academic and private laboratory scientists. Applying social science theories, principles, concepts to review scientific data and determine project technical needs. Volunteer experience can also be used as qualifying experience.

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications for the Social Scientist, GS-0101-12 position, you must also meet the following:

  • Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience in assisting in designing and developing research protocols and conducting research on consumer perceptions, intention and/or use of products that could be applied to tobacco or other regulated products. Volunteer experience can also be used as qualifying experience.

In addition to meeting the basic qualifications for the Social Scientist, GS-0101-13 position, you must also meet the following:

  • Have one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, to include experience in designing and developing research protocols and conducting research on consumer perceptions, intention and/or use of products that could be applied to tobacco or other regulated products. Volunteer experience can also be used as qualifying experience.
