Normal and Pathological Development of the Cerebral Cortex

Position Description:

Torii and Hashimoto-Torii labs (https://hashimototorii.org) at the Center for Neuroscience Research at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC are seeking 2 - 3 highly motivated postdoctoral fellows for our collaborative projects on the mechanisms of normal and pathological development of the cerebral cortex.

The labs carry out basic and translational research using various animal models, including those of autism, epilepsy, Gestational Diabetes, and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, to understand how genetic and environmental factors contribute to key processes in embryonic and postnatal brain development, such as cell type specification, migration, and functional neural circuit formation and refinement.

To study brain development and function at the molecular, cellular, neurophysiological, and behavioral levels, we utilize various cutting-edge tools and technologies, including in vivo gene manipulation and imaging, electrophysiology, gene editing using CRISPR, human iPS cells and cortical organoid, 3D printing of microscale devices for cell/drug delivery, and bioinformatics analyses of the data from human cohorts.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have attained, or will soon attain, a PhD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Developmental Biology or other related fields. Experience in electrophysiology and/or in vivo imaging is preferred but not required.
