Position Description:

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Graduate School of Nursing (GSN) located at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to the GSN.

The incumbent will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects on leveraging and enhancing machine learning techniques to evaluate and solve complex healthcare issues, along with collaboration of clinicians, researchers, and informaticists. Pursues publishing and/or presenting research findings to the organization and in conferences and scientific journals.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in designing and developing a research and development plan. (10%)
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products. (10%)
  • Applies machine learning techniques to synthesize, identify, and evaluate clinical patterns. (40%)
  • Develops tutorials or modules for the organization about data science in healthcare. (10%)
  • Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and informaticists to develop and conduct research within the healthcare sector. (20%)
  • Prepares and submits peer-reviewed conference and journal abstracts and papers resulting from data analysis. (10%)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of data science and/or pattern recognition evidenced by a scientific publication; Programming skills in Java, Python, Julia, MATLAB, R, or C/C++, Experience in machine learning libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, Scikit-Learn, etc.
  • Doctoral degree in Health Informatics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, or Data Analysis required.
  • 0-5 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
