Position Description:

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to join the laboratory of Dr. Claudia Herrera in the Department of Tropical Medicine at Tulane University. The fellow will conduct research on the molecular identification and characterization of Trypanosoma cruzi parasites and genomic analysis of T. cruzi under the supervision of Dr. Herrera.

The postdoctoral researcher will collaborate with faculty from the SPHTM department of Tropical Medicine working on Genome analysis. Opportunities will also be available for independent and collaborative research on Chagas disease, field work abroad, attendance at professional meetings, participation in research grant proposals, and co-authorship on publication of research findings. The incumbent will conduct quality Chagas disease research in laboratory settings as well as in the field and assist in training students and other lab personnel.

Qualifications:

  • The position is open to applicants with a PhD in Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics, Computational molecular biology or Genome sequencing technologies with experience in Tropical Medicine or related biological discipline.
  • Successful candidates must have an interest in molecular epidemiology of Chagas disease and other tropical infectious diseases, working with Dr. Claudia Herrera.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to an individual with experience in bioinformatics analysis or comparative genomics, pertaining to the characterization of parasites.
