Epitranscriptomic Regulation of mRNA Processing and Translation

A postdoctoral position is available in the Oberdoerffer laboratory to study the regulation and impact of mRNA modifications. The laboratory is generally interested in the role of the epigenome and epitranscriptome in mRNA processing and function. We examine the role of DNA methylation in co-transcriptional pre-mRNA splicing, and the influence of mRNA modifications in post-transcriptional mRNA regulation. Projects in the laboratory are highly integrated and utilize a variety of approaches ranging from the biochemical to genome/transcriptome-wide profiling. The position to be filled will specifically examine the role of mRNA acetylation in promoting mRNA stability and efficient translation in immune and cancer relevant cellular model systems. Anticipated methodologies include refined mapping of modified nucleotides, CRISPR/Cas9-guided mutation of responsible enzymes, mass spectrometry to identify associated factors, and the development of in vitro approaches to examine translation. In addition, transcriptome-wide approaches including ribosome footprinting (Ribo-seq) will be employed. While candidates with a wide range of expertise will be considered, applicants with a background in bioinformatics/computational biology are especially encouraged to apply.

Candidates must be strongly motivated, possess a PhD or equivalent and have no more than one year of postdoctoral experience. Successful applicants should have a strong theoretical background in gene regulation and RNA biology.
