Position Descriptions:

Postdoctoral fellowships are currently available in the Epidemiology Branch (http://niehs.nih.gov/epi) at the NIH National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. We are seeking talented and motivated individuals with doctoral degrees and experience in epidemiology, environmental health sciences, or biostatistics for positions available in multiple research groups. Successful candidates will have a strong background in epidemiology, including experience with statistical modeling. Experience in exposure measurement, biomarkers, GIS, genomics and/or gene/environment interactions is beneficial but not required. Research opportunities are currently available in—

Perinatal and Early Life Epidemiology (PI: K Ferguson): Untargeted analysis of environmental chemicals and biologic intermediates for the understanding of the origins of adverse birth outcomes.

Joint position in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (PIs: K Ferguson and S Zhao): Chemical mixtures in the context of pregnancy with opportunities for methods application and development.

Social and Environmental Determinants of Health Equity (PI: C Jackson): Investigating how physical and social environments contribute to disparities in cardiometabolic health.

Fertility and Early Pregnancy (PI: A Jukic): Investigating 1) in utero exposures and offspring reproductive health, 2) environmental exposures and menstrual cycle function or ovarian reserve, 3) environmental exposures and fertility.

Genetics, Environment and Respiratory Disease (PI: S London): Investigating environmental, genetic, and epigenetic factors, and their interactions, in relation to respiratory health and illness across the life-course.

Chronic Disease Epidemiology (PI: D Sandler): Environmental and lifestyle risk factors for breast cancer and/or other health conditions in women in a prospective cohort study.

Environment and Cancer Epidemiology (PI: A White): Environmental exposures, chemical mixtures, and breast cancer research in a prospective cohort study.

Fellows’ time will be devoted to data analysis, manuscript preparation, and career development (e.g., grant applications). Fellows will have the opportunity to propose related research that can be funded internally. Postdoctoral fellows at NIEHS are eligible and encouraged to apply for K99/R00 and non-NIH research grants. While NIEHS fellows have no teaching responsibilities, interaction with faculty and students at local universities (e.g., University of North Carolina, North Carolina State University, and Duke University) can be facilitated and is encouraged. Opportunities for mentoring undergraduate and graduate students are also available.

Salary and benefits are highly competitive. Initial appointments will be two years at NIEHS in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, with additional time (up to 5 years) depending on eligibility and productivity.
