Becoming a Resilient Scientist Series for Students in College and Graduate or Professional School

Each session of this 4-week series will be paired with a small-group discussion on the following Thursday. Workshops are scheduled for June 7, 14, 21, and 28.

Unit 1: Introduction to Wellness and Resilience
Unit 2: Exploring Our Self-Talk: Cognitive Distortions and Imposter Fears
Unit 3: Self-Advocacy and Assertiveness
Unit 4: Feedback Resilience


Wednesday

Graduate & Professional School Preparation

Much of what you need to know to get into graduate school or professional (e.g., medical, dental, veterinary, pharmacy) school and do well. This 5-week series is scheduled for 1:00-2:30 pm (ET) from June 15 through July 13.

Choosing and Applying to Graduate School
Interviewing for Professional (Medical, Dental, Veterinary, etc.) School
Writing a Personal/Research Statement for Graduate Programs


Thursday


Career Development and Science Skills

These sessions will run from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Thursdays from June 9 through July 14 and on July 28. Note that some sessions are more appropriate for SIP participants, while others are suitable for both SIP and HS-SIP.

Career Planning for Scientists, June 9
Essential Leadership Skills for Future Scientists and Health Care Professionals, June 16
Networking, Informational Interviews, and Using LinkedIn for Career Advancement (also suitable for high school students), June 23
Creating and Presenting Virtual Posters (also suitable for high school students), Jun 30
Talking Science: Designing and Delivering Successful Oral Presentations (also suitable for high school students), July 7
CVs, Resumes, and Cover Letters, Essential Job Search Documents (also suitable for high school students), July 14
Job Search Strategies, July 28.

All workshops will be available as recordings on the OITE YouTube Channel after they have been captioned (NOTE: In cases where the workshop was presented in essentially the same form in 2020 OR 2021, that recording may be available instead of a 2022 recording).
