Comparison of SIP and SIP Subprograms

You can use this table to understand the differences among the NIH Summer Internship Program and its various subprograms. IMPORTANT NOTE: The list of "Who Can Apply" is not complete; additional eligibility criteria apply.

If you are a current high school junior or senior, please apply to High School SIP (HS-SIP), HiSTEP, or HiSTEP 2.0.

COVID-19 UPDATE: Due to continued uncertainties about travel and operations across the US, final decisions about the NIH Summer Internship Program are delayed. While we are currently planning to open the application in mid-November, it is possible that all 2021 internships will be virtual/remote. Our priority is the safety of our staff, trainees, and communities. We will post updates regarding the NIH Summer Internship Program 2021 as soon as we have additional information. We would welcome your application, given this information. In the meantime, questions may be directed to Summer_Postbac_Quest@mail.nih.gov.
