Speaker Bios:
- Dr. Ana Martins Ribeiro: Ana M. Ribeiro is a Biologist from Portugal, where she obtained a PhD in Immunology at Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência in 2017. Shortly after, Ana moved to the University of Maryland (USA) as a Postdoctoral Fellow, and it was during this period that she decided to leave the bench to work “at the bench-side” on science education and researcher professional development. Along her path as a researcher, and largely due to personal experience, she grew an interest in the individual and collective dynamics of early career researchers within the academic system. Ana joined the Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 2019, which propelled her interest in supporting scientists thrive in their careers while developing strategies to promote institutional change. After returning to the Iberian Peninsula and working in the People team at CICenergiGUNE as a recruiter & trainer, and at VHIR as an Education Project Manager, Ana joined VHIO Academy, the education & training department at the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) in Barcelona as a Research Culture & Development Officer. Ana’s career blends a background in research with science management, human resources, science education and training for scientists, which she uses to learn about what is important for them to grow professionally and to guide them through the many possible routes that lead to their career goals.
- Dr. Caetano Souto Maior: I am a Natural Scientist and Statistical Modeler with over fifteen years of scientific practice, and further experience in education and consulting. My current focus is the combination of Critical, Scientific & Quantitative Thinking as a foundation for evidence-based problem solving. I have recently co-founded Aurora Collective Intelligence to continue my research in an independent and unconstrained manner, and to offer my expertise to individuals and organizations in the form of training, consultancy and advisory services in topics like statistical modeling, machine learning & AI; scientific programming/algorithms; and more generally tackling open-ended problems using the scientific methods.
- Dr. Sandra Muñoz: I am a biomedical scientist with a strong background in biomedical and clinical research across multiple therapeutic areas, currently committed to making scientific advances accessible to patients through scientific exchange. Improving patients’ lives has always been my greatest motivation, first in the lab and now in Medical Affairs. During my research experience, I worked closely with scientific experts and healthcare professionals in collaborative initiatives. Project management and communication were crucial for the success of the projects. I developed research plans, defined strategies identifying risks and opportunities, and coordinated multidisciplinary teams. Regarding communication, I delivered reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders and communicated scientific findings through presentations at congresses and scientific publications. Driven by my experience in clinical studies and passion for improving health outcomes, I joined the pharmaceutical industry. I work to bridge science and clinical practice by engaging in scientific exchange with healthcare professionals, supporting the generation and dissemination of medical and scientific information, and collaborating with cross-functional teams in alignment with company strategy. My goal is to translate insights into improved patient outcomes.
