The Rochester Institute of Technology College of Health Sciences and Technology is seeking a Director of Clinical Education for their newly formed Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, and invites applications for this the full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position.
About the position
Our newly formed DPT program will be housed in the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition, joining the Nutritional Sciences and Exercise Science undergraduate programs, graduate Dietetics and Nutrition and Health and Well-being Management programs, and the doctoral program in Occupational Therapy. The new DPT program will meet the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education national accreditation requirements.
The Director of Clinical Education will provide leadership, coordination, and oversight of all aspects of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program clinical education, ensuring our students undergo high-quality clinical education in compliance with CAPTE standards. The Director of Clinical Education will work under the supervision of the DPT Program Director, and collaborate with faculty to promote excellence in both integrated and full-time student experiences. Duties of this core faculty appointment include administrative, academic, scholarly, and service responsibilities that advance the program's mission and ensure excellence in clinical education.
Job duties include:
- Provide leadership in planning, developing, coordinating, and ongoing management of the clinical education program
- Secure and assess clinical sites for sufficient quality, quantity, and variety of student placement, both integrated and full-time experience, consistent with our curriculum
- Coordinate, track, and maintain the currency of written agreements between RIT and clinical education sites.
- Manage and track clinical site agreements and compliance documentation, including Memorandums of Agreement, Certificates of Insurance, immunization records, background checks, and Clinical Instructor credentials.
- Develop policies and procedures related to clinical education for all experiences.
- Gather and evaluate clinical placement feedback to inform program improvement.
Academic duties include:
- Teach our standard faculty load of 9 to 10 semester hours per academic semester, with the possibility of a teaching load reduction after negotiation with the DPT Program Director.
- Coordinate, organize, sequence, and integrate the clinical education program with our didactic curriculum, including intra-professional and inter-professional learning activities.
- Lead assessment of clinical education by selecting and implementing appropriate assessment tool(s)
- Train CIinical Instructors to effectively meet the curricular needs and expected program outcomes.
- Provide clinical teaching, mentorship, and guidance to both students and clinical instructors.
- Ensure that student supervision and feedback are appropriate for their respective clinical education experience.
Scholarship duties include:
- Establish a scholarly agenda consistent with RIT’s mission, CAPTE expectations, and the professional contribution norms of our field.
- Engage in scholarly activities and disseminate at least one peer-reviewed product annually.
- Mentor students in the successful completion of their research projects
- Advise students on academic progress.
- Participate in ongoing program self-assessment, outcome analysis, and the preparation of documents for CAPTE accreditation and institutional reporting.
- Serve on departmental or institutional committees.
- Contribute to professional organizations and clinical education consortia at the state or national level.
This position is full-time, 12-month, and may be tenure or non-tenure, with prospective candidates potentially hired at the academic rank of Associate Professor (tenure-track), Associate Clinical Professor (non-tenure), or Clinical Professor of Practice (non-tenure), commensurate with experience.

Qualifications
Position Qualifications:
- A Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, PT/EdD, PT/DSc, or PT/PhD.
- A Current, active, and unencumbered physical therapy license.
- A Minimum of three (3) years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice.
- A Minimum of two (2) years of clinical practice experience as a site coordinator of clinical education or clinical instructor in physical therapy, OR a minimum of two (2) years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapist education program.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in written and oral communication, organization, interpersonal relations, problem-solving, and academic advising or counseling skills.
- A sound record of scholarly activity commensurate with the academic rank of appointment.
- Experience with database management and clinical education software.
- An ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
