Nurse Practitioner (Part-Time)

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, a non-profit component of of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Graduate School of Nursing, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to help with all aspects of patient care in support of our research endeavors.

About the position

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving military, medical, academic, and governmental clients through the administering, managing, and supporting of preeminent scientific programs that benefit the members of our armed forces and their civilians family members. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners, allowing military medical researchers and clinicians to better maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

We are now seeking a Nurse Practitioner to work as part of our treatment team in in-patient, out-patient, and research environments. Primarily, this Nurse Practitioner position will educates patients about preventative care, research supplements, and study placebos. Prospective candidates will also conduct physical exams, orders tests and medications, and serve as our patients' primary healthcare provider. This position will be in support of the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and will collaborate with the cardiovascular unit of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This position is part-time at 21 hours per week during standard business days.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the implementation, tracking, coordination, and execution of research study components, as well as study administrative management
  • Demonstrate continuous clinical proficiency in screening, evaluating, and monitoring consistent with our standard of care
  • Improve research design, analysis, and methodology and identify trends in patient treatment reactions.
  • Collect, organize, catalog, disseminate, and maintain all study data and appropriate records of current research data.
  • Assist in the development of research questions, design, and methodology.
  • Assists in the writing, editing, and management of study protocols
  • Present draft study protocols at Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
  • Educates patients and their families on research protocols, research purpose, procedures, patient responsibilities, while also answering questions and discussing the risks and benefits of study participation.
  • Deliver Informed Consent for research protocol(s).
  • Present clinical results at local and national meetings and assist in the preparation of research for publication in scientific journals.
  • Prepare patients for invasive procedures and assists in their implementation as needed.
  • Prescribes appropriate therapies within the limits established by our research protocols.
  • Assists in clinical administration which may include set up, appointment booking, phone consultations, and delivery of appropriate program information and questionnaires.
  • Provide feedback to Primary Investigators about patient care quality, protocol adherence, and study operations.
  • Provide emergency care as needed and continually work to improve clinical functions
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor, including required training.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • A Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience
  • Current Nurse Practitioner License valid in the state of Maryland.
  • Active credentials at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is preferred.
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary to perform clinical responsibilities consistent with our research protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain accurate and complete health records and patient files.
  • Venipuncture.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods and climb, pull, or lift heavy objects.
