Job
Postdoctoral Researcher (Georgetown)

Georgetown University, Washington, District of Columbia, United States
Scientific focus area
Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics, Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry
The Kohram Lab at Georgetown University is now seeking a highly-motivated experimental biological physicist to join our group as a postdoctoral researcher to lead a project investigating the mechanisms of bacterial aging at the single-cell level.
About the position
Our group investigates asymmetric damage inheritance and replicative senescence in bacteria. Aging is the progressive breakdown of cellular homeostasis, whereby a cell’s ability to maintain its internal equilibrium deteriorates and a failure of essential physiological functions ensues.
In a previous study, we identified that the growth and division dynamics of E. coli cells are altered in late-stage generations. As such, a major focus of this postdoctoral position will be to identify how molecular mechanisms generate the non-genetic phenotypic variation that drives aging in bacteria. This researcher will have opportunities to develop independent research directions, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to building a new research program.
