The Monteiro Research Group at the National Cancer Institute Center for Structural Biology in Frederick, Maryland is now seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our efforts in drug discovery via high-throughput fragment screening.
About the position
The Monteiro lab specializes in protein crystallography using high-throughput structure and validation pipelines to drive drug discovery and development. Our team is highly interdisciplinary, working at the interface between protein crystallography and medicinal chemistry. Our ccurrent drug targets focus on oncometabolic pathways.
Prospective postdoctoral fellows will work in developing drug leads based on fragment screening campaigns, bridging enzymology, mechanistic protein biochemistry, and high-throughput screening to deliver novel small molecules and thus leverage orthosteric and allosteric inhibition strategies. Specially, this work will encompass in-silico hit development (including fragment linking, growing and isostere replacement) and the organic synthesis of proposed compounds.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated scientist to join our team. Due to the nature of our work, all candidates are expected to have excellent communication skills and enjoy working on projects as part of a multidisciplinary team. The NIH Intramural program also provides excellent training and career development opportunities for early-career investigators.
Initial applications will be evaluated starting August 15th 2026 and the search will remain open until the position is filled. The successful candidate will be expected to start in Fall 2026. Initial appointment is for 2 years, with the possibility of extension to 5.
