Job

Postdoctoral Fellow

The laboratory of Dr. Brant Weinstein in the NICHD Division of Developmental Biology in Bethesda, Maryland is currently seeking postdoctoral fellows to study vascular-associated tissues and organs in zebrafish.

About the position

The Weinstein laboratory uses a variety of cutting-edge molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches, including transgenic modeling, microscopic imaging, and next-gen sequencing, to study the development and function of clinically relevant vascularized tissues and organs in zebrafish, including the gills, the meninges, and the Axillary Lymphoid Organ. Our laboratory recently discovered that zebrafish have mammalian-like meninges that are readily observed and imaged in living animals through the thin, translucent adult zebrafish skull. We are now studying this critical but poorly understood set of tissues to model meningeal cerebrovascular injury. Read more here and here.

We also recently discovered a previously uncharacterized, lymph-node-like, externally-located, secondary immune organ known as the Axillary Lymphoid Organ or ALO. We are leveraging this immune organ to explore how secondary immune organs develop and function as vascular-immune interfaces. You can read more about our practices here.

In addition, we have also shown that zebrafish gills, which are readily accessible, possess unusual gas-exchange endothelial cells that strongly resemble the specialized 'aerocyte' endothelial cells of human lung alveoli. We are, as such, using our zebrafish model to study the development and function of these important cells. You can learn more here.

Lastly, our scientific environment, institutional resources, and support for postdoctoral fellows, including stipend, are unmatched. Learn more about the Weinstein lab here.
