The Cellular Stress and Inflammation Section within the National Institute on Drug Abuse Intramural Research Program is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to investigate mechanisms of cellular dysfunction associated with substance use disorder. Research in the lab focuses on disruptions in cellular proteostasis resulting from endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi stress.
About the position
The selected candidate will lead independent and collaborative research projects investigating alterations in cellular proteostasis associated with substance use disorder, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. The primary focus of the work will be on endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi dysfunction resulting from disrupted intracellular calcium homeostasis. Responsibilities include designing and executing hypothesis-driven experiments using molecular, cellular, and biochemical approaches in both cell culture systems and small rodent models. The postdoctoral fellow will employ advanced methodologies such as transcriptomic and proteomic analyses, gene delivery and gene therapy strategies, bioluminescent and fluorescent reporter assays, and live-cell and fixed-cell fluorescence microscopy.
Additional duties include maintaining and manipulating mammalian cell cultures, performing data analysis and interpretation, and integrating multi-omics datasets to define disease-relevant pathways. The candidate will be expected to contribute to manuscript preparation and presentation of findings at scientific meetings. Mentorship of graduate and undergraduate trainees, as well as active participation in laboratory meetings and collaborative research efforts, will also be part of the role.
