About the position
The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute is a leading research institute dedicated to the understanding and treatment of disease. We seek to discover the molecular basis of major human diseases including cancer and to develop effective new approaches to diagnostics and therapeutics. The FBRI has launched an ambitious collaboration with Children’s National Hospital to build an outfit of pioneering cancer researchers at the new innovation center in Washington, DC (CNRIC). The Mulvaney lab’s focus in this center is on signaling pathways in pediatric and adult cancers—with a particular emphasis on therapeutically targeting enzyme vulnerabilities. Postdocs interested in developing novel cancer therapeutics are encouraged to apply. Postdocs will be able to grow and develop their own projects under Dr. Mulvaney’s guidance. The Mulvaney Laboratory within the FBRI and Children’s is deploying large-scale genetic, immune, peptide, and small molecule approaches to define domains and specific molecular mechanisms that can be exploited for therapeutic development against emerging cancer targets.
We are looking for an exceptional Postdoctoral Scholar to join a team of scientists investigating signaling pathways in cancer. We are seeking creative and highly motivated individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment. We value innovative and rigorous science in a friendly and fun environment. Postdocs will have access to all Virginia Tech and Children’s National Hospital Resources, core facilities, and seminars, and will be provided opportunities to grow and develop. They will also benefit from the rich scientific community in the DC area.

There is limited understanding of the pathobiological mechanisms underlying how chemical compounds in the air and everyday consumer products influence lung disease and CVD onset. Dr. Wong leads epidemiologic studies to understand how these exposures -originating in the home, community, and workplace- influence disease pathogenesis through pathways involving DNA alterations. Dr. Wong is focused on identifying omics biomarkers of environmental exposures, disease risk, and genomic instability.
