Postdoctoral Fellow

The Ribonucleoprotein Assembly Section under the direction of Dr. Margaret Rodgers is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate the molecular mechanisms guiding RNA-protein interactions during transcription.

About the position

Prospective fellows will join our research team to uncover how ribosome biogenesis is initiated during transcription of the ribosomal RNA. This project will combine biochemistry, genetics, and biophysical approaches, including single-molecule microscopy, to examine the mechanism of ribosome assembly in real time.

The Rodgers lab explores fundamental questions related to how RNA-protein interactions and RNA structure is established during transcription to assemble a ribonucleoprotein. Open projects in the lab cover a variety of facets of RNA biology ranging from eukaryotic ribosome biogenesis, co-transcriptional spliceosome assembly, and assembly of mRNPs during transcription.

Postdoctoral fellows are highly encouraged to leverage the techniques and expertise of the Rodgers lab with resources available in NIDDK and NIH to develop independent research programs and career development. To study transcription and ribonucleoprotein assembly, we combine biochemistry, genetics, and biophysical techniques in several model systems including bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells.

The Rodgers lab specializes in single-molecule fluorescence methods to follow ribonucleoprotein assembly in real time including single-molecule colocalization co-transcriptional assembly. Qualifications

We invite applications from highly-motivated scientists with expertise in molecular biology, biochemistry, and RNA biology.

Experience in microscopy is desirable but not required.

Candidate should have obtained a Ph.D. degree within the last three years.
