Job

Postdoctoral Fellow – Environmental, Molecular, and Genomic Epidemiology

There is limited understanding of the pathobiological mechanisms underlying how chemical compounds in the air and everyday consumer products influence lung disease and CVD onset. Dr. Wong leads epidemiologic studies to understand how these exposures -originating in the home, community, and workplace- influence disease pathogenesis through pathways involving DNA alterations. Dr. Wong is focused on identifying omics biomarkers of environmental exposures, disease risk, and genomic instability.

About the position

The Laboratory of Genomic Instability and Cardiopulmonary Outcomes (LoGICO; Principal Investigator: Dr. Jason Wong, Sc.D) at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a multidisciplinary research program focused on using population science to understand the environmental, molecular, and genomic determinants of chronic lung and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). About the Candidate The successful candidate will work at the intersection of environmental and occupational medicine, epidemiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. Here, the candidate will leverage existing population cohorts, exposomic data, and state-of-the-art biomarker platforms (i.e, sequencing/genomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, proteomics). The fellow will lead team-based, collaborative projects aimed at identifying important novel biomarkers, understanding disease mechanisms, and developing integrative models of disease risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design of studies, data analyses, and manuscript preparation.
  • Conduct epidemiology analyses integrating multi-omics and clinical phenotypes.
  • Design and execute statistical and bioinformatic workflows for large-scale datasets.
  • Collaborate with world-class epidemiologists, clinicians, bioinformaticians, and external partners.
  • Present findings at national and international scientific meetings.

What We Offer

  • A highly collaborative research environment within the NIH Intramural Research Program.
  • Access to exceptional resources, technologies, biorepositories, and cohorts.
  • Competitive stipend and benefits (https://www.training.nih.gov/stipends/). Potential +$10,000 annual stipend bonus for those with specialty skills explicitly noted on terminal degree diploma (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, etc.). Limited relocation assistance package is available.
  • Opportunities for career development, training, and mentorship tailored to the fellow’s goals.
