Research priorities include incidence, prevalence, disparities in chronic disease management, and factors related to resilience and health restoration.
About the position
The Epidemiology program of the NCCIH is seeking two highly motivated and experienced Research Fellows with strong analytical, technical, and/or clinical skills to conduct independent research within the Epidemiology Program (EP). Our ongoing research focuses on disparities in health care, developing models for studying whole person health and resilience, and the combined use of validated questionnaires and Quantitative Sensory Testing for predicting future chronic pain in diverse populations. Using data from national surveys, longitudinal cohorts, and ongoing clinical studies, involving quantitative sensory testing at the NIH Pain Research Center, our fellows will design studies, develop analytic plans, conduct statistical analyses, interpret findings, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals to support our research. Fellows are also expected to mentor trainees, present research at NIH and national and international scientific meetings, and pursue independent research funding.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Identify compelling research questions left unresolved in the epidemiology of pain and/or complementary health approaches and/or whole person health, resilience, and health restoration.
- Identify existing data sets or designing novel studies involving Quantitative Sensory Testing that can be used to answer research questions identified above.
- Develop and implement analysis plans for identified data sets or novel studies identified above.
- Interpret data produced through implementation of analysis plans.
- Preparing summaries and reports based on results and findings.
- Present results and findings in both formal and informal presentations at NCCIH, other NIH Institutes/Centers, and at academic institutions and conferences.
- Lead writing and submission of scientific manuscripts to scientific journals.
Additional duties may include:
- Mentoring Postbaccalaureate and/or Postdoctoral fellows.
- Working closely with other members of the EP, NIH PRC Staff, and members of other NCCIH sections.
- Working with other intramural investigators from other NIH Institutes and Centers.
Salary will be based on the NIH Research Fellow stipend table and commensurate with experience and accomplishments. A full civil service package of benefits (retirement, health, life, long-term care insurance, Thrift Savings Plan, etc.) is available.
