Staff Scientist

NIEHS is seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist to provide immunotoxicology expertise to the Systems Toxicology Branch within the Division of Translational Toxicology, in North Carolina.

About the position

The Systems Toxicology Branch works to advance the Division of Translational Toxicology’s mission of supporting environmental public health policy by conducting investigative laboratory research into the toxicity of immune, nervous, respiratory, and reproductive organ systems, identifying environmental human health hazards, and furthering the DTT's understanding of the relationship between environmental toxicity and human disease. Specifically, the Systems Toxicology Branch develops research initiatives that evaluate the conduct and interpretation of toxicology studies.

We are now seeking a Title 42(g) Staff Scientist to conduct these studies as they relate to immune function, autoimmunity, and dermal/respiratory sensitization. This scientist will perform evaluations and summarization of immunotoxicity information as new data is presented through peer-reviewed publications and DTT laboratory investigations.

In addition, the prospective staff scientist will be responsible for submitting project proposals on potential chemical of interest in immune toxicity and developing New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). Potential NAM areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the assessment of developmental immunotoxicity, the investigation of pulmonary immune altering substances in vitro and in vivo (i.e. microplastics, vaping components, and the exploration of differential (i.e. age-related, sex-based) susceptibility.

This staff scientist will also serve as a DTT liaison to other federal agencies and the broader international community of immuno-toxicologists, providing guidance on assay and testing program development.
