Staff Scientist

The National Cancer Institute Clinical Genetics Branch of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics is seeking a Staff Scientist.

About the position

The NCI Clinical Genetics Branch, Division of Cancer Epidemiology, conducts interdisciplinary research to understand the molecular and clinical basis of hereditary cancer syndromes and translate this science into evidence-based strategies for cancer prevention and clinical management among both the cancer-prone and general population.

This prospective Staff Scientist, working under the direction of a CGB Senior Investigator will contribute to projects studying genetic epidemiology of hereditary cancer syndromes, including inherited bone marrow failure syndromes, telomere biology disorders, and Li-Fraumeni syndrome. Specific duties include the coordination of study design and implementation, management of complex genomic and clinical datasets, the performance of statistical and bioinformatic analyses, and the development and maintenance of collaborative research resources. This staff scientists responsibilities will also include the mentoring of laboratory trainees and the preparation of scientific reports and manuscripts for presentation and/or publication. Independent research work on data analyses and pilot projects will be strongly encouraged.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (epidemiology, genetics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or public health). This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while also working independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, as demonstrated through scientific presentations and peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated experience with large-scale genomic datasets, population-based studies, research in Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and/or telomere biology disorders, programming in Python and R, and interdisciplinary collaborations are all highly desirable.
