Staff Scientist

The National Eye Institute (NEI), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for a Staff Scientist position in the Intramural Research Program (IRP).

About the position

The goal of this search is to identify a candidate who will develop and deploy cutting edge data science, computational biology and machine learning solutions for ocular and neuroscience research. The candidate will leverage their extensive scientific and technical backgrounds to advance research capabilities across the entire portfolio of IRP projects.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the biological sciences with subsequent post degree training and scientific technical proficiencies in bioinformatics, spatial omics, high-resolution imaging (fixed and live), and data science. Experience must include direct hands-on expertise in the entire pipeline of each experimental discipline, from sample preparation through data analysis. In addition to the listed scientific competencies, candidates must also possess detailed experience working within and maintaining scientific high-performance computing infrastructure. Specifically, experience leveraging high-performance computing clusters for data analysis or visualization, operating within enterprise data storage infrastructure, and leveraging cloud resources to extend resource capabilities. Due to its cross-discipline nature, this position requires a highly motivated and collaborative scientist who appreciates acute challenges and enjoys training others in technical disciplines.
