Staff Scientist

The Systemic Autoimmunity Branch, of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, is seeking a highly motivated Staff Scientist to join our team in Bethesda, Maryland.

About the position

The Systemic Autoimmunity Branch conducts integrated basic, translational, and clinical research to define the immunologic, genetic, and environmental mechanisms underlying systemic autoimmune diseases, including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and related disorders. As such, research within the Branch leverages well-characterized patient cohorts and advanced immunologic and genomic technologies in a highly collaborative NIH environment.

Major duties and responsibilities of this prospective staff scientist include the design and conduct of research studies focused on mechanisms of systemic autoimmunity and inflammation via the application of advanced immunologic, molecular, genomic, and computational approaches. This individual will also be expected to analyze and interpret complex datasets from human samples and experimental model systems, as well as contribute to translational research efforts, including biomarker discovery and therapeutic target identification. They will also have to collaborate with basic, clinical and translational investigators and prepare manuscripts, reports, and scientific presentations. Lastly, they will be expected to mentor trainees and provide technical guidance within our laboratory, plus contribute to laboratory management and strategic research planning.

Qualifications

Interested applicants much have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in immunology, molecular biology, or a related biomedical field, and at least 5 years of postdoctoral experience. A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience with modern immunologic and molecular techniques is a must. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment is also necessary.
