General Information about reasonable accommodations
A reasonable accommodation is a change or exception to an Agency policy or individual office rules and/or procedures, to enable an otherwise qualified individual with a disability to perform the essential functions of their NIH Fellowship.
The reasonable accommodation process for non-FTE fellows appointed as IRTAs, CRTAs, or visiting fellows is handled by the NIH OITE in collaboration with NIH Equal Employment Opportunity (NIH EEO). Research and clinical fellows follow guidance provided to NIH FTEs and should direct inquiries to the NIH EEO.
Fellows may apply for a gold permit for handicap parking by submitting a Handicap Parking Request with the NIH Parking Office.
Submitting a request
If you have a medical condition that you believe prevents you from carrying out the requirements of your NIH Fellowship, you may request a reasonable accommodation using the link below. You are not required to talk with your PI or daily supervisor prior to applying for accommodations, but they will be engaged at a later stage of the process. No detailed medical information on medical diagnosis will be shared.
Please do not send medical documentation or provide details surrounding of you medical condition during the initial application. However, if approved for an interim accommodation by OITE, you will be asked to provide medical documentation according to the NIH Reasonable Accommodation Program process.
