POSTBACC_L Posting Policies

POSTBACC_L is an NIH listserv that shares information on volunteer opportunities and activities organized by the Postbac Committee in addition to reagent requests, FAES BioTech course announcements, and other valuable NIH science-related news or news for which the OITE is not responsible but which is of potential interest to NIH trainees.

  1. Please use appropriate subject lines for your post (Example: REAGENT Request: need anti-goal A). Posts with no subject line or inappropriate subject lines will NOT be approved.
  2. If you are posting an event looking for volunteers please add the appropriate disclaimer.

i. For NIH Blood Drives and other official NIH events:
This is an NIH-sponsored event. If you attend this event you are not representing the NIH and should not represent yourself as such. Volunteering and outreach are valuable components of professional development and also help strengthen the scientific community. Fellows should weigh the importance of this specific activity in their overall career development. If the event falls on a weekday and requires you to leave the NIH during normal working hours, participation depends on permission of your supervisor.

ii. For all other EVENTS looking for volunteers:
This not an NIH-sponsored event, nor is it endorsed by the NIH. If you attend this event you are not representing the NIH and should not represent yourself as such. Volunteering and outreach are valuable components of professional development and also help strengthen the scientific community. Fellows should weigh the importance of this specific activity in their overall career development. If the event falls on a weekday and requires you to leave the NIH during normal working hours, participation depends on permission of your supervisor.

3. Rules for Animal Transfer Request: If you are looking to transfer animals or any animal material through POSTBACC_L, you MUST add this disclaimer to your note. Copy and paste this into your email:

Prior to transfer I, the requester, will contact my IC Animal Care Committee to facilitate proper transfer procedures for these mice in coordination with the donor's IC Animal Care Committee.

4. Rules for Recruiting Human Subject Volunteers: If you are looking for study Volunteers you must have approval to post the message from your IC and the appropriate NIH IRB. Additionally, you MUST add this disclaimer to your note.

This message has been approved by the NIH XXXIRB. You are receiving this message because your email address is included in the above listserv mailing list. The purpose of this message is to inform you of studies that are recruiting subjects. The moderator of the listserv mailing list has permitted its use for this distribution.

6. Inappropriate Posts for POSTBACC_L:

  • Requests for Training/Employment for friends/colleagues 
  • Requests for Housing
  • Messages about Selling or Buying Items
  • Notices of Social Events 
  • Solicitations/Fundraising (NOTE: this activity is prohibited under ALL circumstances, not just on POSTBACC_L)

*Important note about using social media:

Should you decide to use social media while you are working at the NIH, remember that including the NIH name, logo, or images is not allowed. Only personal email accounts and wording that avoids associating your materials with the NIH are permitted.

This is for young scientists in the Bethesda area; to join send an email to clubpcr-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. You can use this listserv to find housing, sell items, arrange carpooling, or gather information. This Listserv is not associated with the NIH, and you should use an email address other than your NIH email address to subscribe.
