Summer Journal Discussion Clubs

An opportunity for summer interns to read and discuss journal articles under the direction of a Journal Discussion Club facilitator.

About journal clubs

Journal Clubs are designed to be low-pressure, high engagement learning spaces for summer interns to participate in exploring scientific questions, topics, or themes. Rather than focusing on exhaustive paper analysis, groups emphasize scientific dialogue, curiosity, and shared inquiry across a broad theme.

What makes OITE journal discussion clubs special is that they allow participants to dive into one subject for a relatively short amount of time and discuss their findings with peers who have similar interests.

Dates and schedule

Registration for Summer Journal Clubs will open on May 12. The soft registration deadline is May 22, while the hard registration deadline is June 22.

Summer interns who register before May 22 will be notified of their Journal Club topic on May 26, and periodic notifications will be sent each Monday through the hard registration deadline. Please give us until the Monday of the week after you registered to be notified of your topic.

Summer Journal Clubs have their own dates and schedule. Ask your facilitator for a meeting schedule if you have not yet received one from them.

Read club descriptions

Journal discussion club information can be found in the attached document. Club titles are listed in alphabetical order, sorted by format. Please read through the descriptions before registering for the journal club that matches your availability and interests.

Note: At this moment, Journal Discussion Clubs are only open to 2026 NIH Summer Interns. NIH intramural fellows will be notified if there are additional spots in early June.
