Event
OITE-BIG: Interpersonal Communication: Speaking and Listening Beyond the Academic World
Speaker: Xu Simon, PhD
About this event
Communication, teaching, learning, and documentation all depend both on clear messaging and on accurate understanding. Miscommunication often results from a correctible mismatch between these two components. This 90-minute professional development webinar, geared toward early-career STEM professionals, breaks interpersonal communication down into two distinct but interacting parts, sending messages and receiving them. This breakdown will give participants the tools they need to troubleshoot miscommunication events with respect.
Xu Simon earned her PhD in Biology from MIT in 2008. After completing her Kirschstein National Research Service Award fellowship at Brandeis University, she served for two years as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow. She was then placed in the US Department of State before earning an MBA in Global Business from Bentley University. She currently serves as COO at Enozo Technologies, Inc. and has served as adjunct professor at both Bentley and Brandeis Universities.
