The Light Imaging Section at the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Skin Diseases at NIH is now seeking a talented and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our team.
About the position
Our imaging core supports a broad and diverse portfolio of projects. Collaborations may span NIAMS and the wider NIH intramural community, giving you as a fellow exposure to many scientific questions, biological systems, and experimental approaches. This is not a single-project position. It is a diversified role for someone who enjoys learning, adapting, solving problems, and contributing to many projects at the same time.
Because this position is in a collaborative core environment, scientific and technical excellence are only part of what we are looking for. I desire someone who is collegial, kind, and genuinely happy to help. The successful candidate should enjoy answering questions, training users, troubleshooting, discussing imaging strategies, developing AI-assisted analysis workflows, supporting automated histology slide imaging, helping with high-throughput imaging assays, and working hands-on with collaborators when needed.
This position is especially well suited for a postdoc who wants to develop broad expertise in advanced microscopy, automated slide imaging, high-throughput live-cell imaging, image analysis, and AI-based tools while learning how a high-level imaging core operates within the unique scientific environment of the NIH. Key areas of interest include Widefield, confocal, and super-resolution microscopy, Spatial biology, Automated histology slide imaging, High-throughput imaging systems, Image segmentation and quantitative image analysis, AI-based image analysis tools, Experimental design for imaging-based projects, Hands-on support of diverse research projects, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with light microscopy at multiple levels, including widefield, confocal, and super-resolution imaging. Experience with automated histology slide imaging, high-throughput imaging systems, image segmentation, quantitative image analysis, and AI-based tools is also desirable. A background in molecular immunology would be a plus. Expertise in spatial transcriptomics or spatial biology would be an additional strength.
Disclaimer/Fine Print
U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply. NIH welcomes foreign nationals with the exception of individuals from this list.
