Job

Postdoctoral Fellow

The Genomic Technology Section, a state-of-the-art core facility that provides expertise in next-generation sequencing, single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, and multi-omics technologies to investigators across NIH is now seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join their dynamic and interdisciplinary team.

About the position

This postdoctoral fellowship, under Dr. Stefania Dell’Orso, is ideal for candidates interested in pursuing technology-driven careers in industry, biotech, or advanced research infrastructure. This position will include mentored hands-on experience with a broad spectrum of next-generation sequencing and multi-omics technologies. Potential candidates will work at the interface of technology development, experimental design, and bioinformatics analysis in a highly collaborative environment, with opportunities to lead independent projects in support of immunology, metabolism, transcriptional control, skin, musculoskeletal and auto-immune disorders research.

This is a full-time position with an initial appointment of one year, renewable annually, up to 5 total years. The NIH offers a competitive salary and comprehensive health insurance. The NIH is also dedicated to the continued education and career development of all its research staff, including opportunities to attend and present at national and international scientific meetings.

Key Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Conducting library preparation, experimental design, and sequencing & data analysis in collaboration with investigators, including the selection of platforms, assay types, and depth/coverage considerations aligned with scientific projects.
  • Optimizing sequencing libraries for short-read platforms (Illumina MiSeq, NextSeq 2000, NovaSeq X Plus) and long-read sequencing (Oxford Nanopore).
  • Operating and maintaining cutting-edge instruments to ensure high-quality data generation.
  • Performing bioinformatics analyses of sequencing data (not limited to QC), including processing, integration, and interpretation of bulk and single-cell datasets.
  • Contributing to the development, optimization, and interpretation of omics-data across Single-Cell Genomics Applications.
  • Designing and executing single-cell experiments using 10x Genomics, Takara ICELL8, and plate-based approaches.
  • Applying a wide range of assays including scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, scCUT&Tag, CITE-seq, CRISPR-based screens, scTCR, and scBCR.
  • Performing and supporting spatial transcriptomics workflows using Xenium, Visium HD, and emerging platforms (e.g. Atera).
  • Other processes include ChIP-seq CUT&Tag, CUT&RUN Hi-C, Whole Genome Sequencing, and Whole Exome Sequencing.
